Gym
For Gym read "in the house" as well. A gym will have some gadgets you can't have at home for reasons of space, money, the other half - the list is almost endless. It's cheaper to join a Council gym than a flashy private one but I understand that some people don't want to mix with the likes of me.
Chances are the gym is attached to the pool and that's a piece of kit that is certainly cheaper to have a membership for than buy and maintain your own.
So immediately you have an option of swim or gym or both if the weather outside is inclement (heat can be worse than ice for your health).
The attached core workouts can be done in the home or in a gym. If you don't have the specific equipment (either dumbbells or a kettle bell) you can still do most of the routine without them. A gym will have free-weights you can use so don't go out spending a fortune on kit.
