Sunglasses
Races start in the spring and run into the winter so a good pair of sunnies is recommended. They also shield your eyes from any debris that can be thrown into your face during a ride so I'd highly recommed these.
You can leave them on for the run and they'll hide how knackered you look crossing the finish line - especially if there's an official photographer/videographer loitering around.
Aldi regularly have sporting sunglasses on sale for £3 during their cycling events. I always grab at least one pair every time they go on sale.
The "proper" cycling brands will cost in excess of £40 which hurts more when they break.
