Swimming Costume

A swimming costume of any description is fine. Performance swimwear tends to be lycra and tight-fitting to allow you to glide smoothly through the water minimising drag. If you're wearing baggy swim shorts they will cause drag and slow you down ... on the plus side they make you work harder so I would advise them as a training aid.

Running shorts can also be used - again try and get a pair of tight lycra ones for speed.

The padding in cycling shorts may absorb a little too much water to be effective.

Gentlemen, please avoid Budgie Smugglers. I don't care if they make you more efficient in the water just don't wear them. You aren't competing in a swim club competition so do those of us who have to swim behind you, or generally have to look at you, a favour and steer clear. Thank you.
