Swim-Bike-Run

If only the swim were longer.

It doesn't matter what distance you do whether it be Super Sprint to full Iron distance the swim is the shortest section, the bike the longest and the run the most gruelling (in my opinion).

There are many events with more springing up all of the time. Local Authorities are waking up to the fact that they have municipal pools or nearby rivers they can exploit. If they have 500 athletes descend on their town in the early hours and are starving come lunchtime then they have just attracted 500 people (and their supporters) who wouldn't normally visit.

Add to this triathletes like to check out the courses before race day so chances are they make multiple visits and end up spending money (cyclists know all about cake stops). Now is a great time to take part in a race.

Many races will have a longer and shorter option although most pool-based tris opt for sprint distances only (which is far enough in my opinion). Open water races will require a wetsuit - sorry but we're in the UK and the water never gets warm. It may get too hot to run but never so hot you won't require a wetsuit.
