Bike
First of all BE SAFE. Wear a helmet (you can't compete without one so get used to it) and be seen. I never knew how much I loved flourecent colours.
The best training you can do is to go out on your bike and ride. Learn how to handle your gearing, breaking, your descents and travelling at speed.
Push yourself hard over increasingly longer periods to build stamina and muscle endurance.
Practice ascents over varying gradients.
The more miles you can get under your belt the better you'll be so keep at it.
If you cycle to work be sure to push yourself to keep pedaling and try not to coast along (as long as you're safe).
Cycling, like running, can be weather dependant so when there's snow and ice on the ground the great indoors need not stop your bike training. For those of you who own, or are interested in purchasing, a Turbo Trainer I've attached a number of training sessions below.
For those of you who own an exercise bike you can still use the training sessions just increase and decrease your resistance.
Those of you with a gym membership (your local municipal pool probably has one attached) then use the gym bikes and increase/decrease the resistance as you need to.
